Johnny Devil and his girlfriend share a special moment. |
Dark Light is the first of Johnny's creations. Although Johnny was the director and producer, his brother James C. Lion was the lead editor of the project. It is a dark slapstick comedy about two suit-clad hoodlums who performed random acts of violence as often as possible. Things change when the main character, played by Johnny, kidnaps a young woman (played by Stacy Hunter), who he eventually falls in love with. After his partner is killed by a local drug lord, The Boss, Johnny deserts his girlfriend for her own good, while seeking revenge against him.
Johnny Devil and his arch-enemy, The Boss, fight a heroic battle on a rooftop. |
Dark Light, the first of Johnny's feature-length films, demonstrated his excellence at capturing action, comedy, and drama. Though it was a dark comedy, it lacked the mysterious gothic qualities of his later works. It is still revered by many as a great classic comedic phenomenon. The movie ran sixty minutes in length, and took four hard-working months to create. It was filmed in 1990 in Bremerton and Silverdale. It was originally filmed on Super 8mm sound movie film, but later transferred to VHS.
